You Can Hit A Run Home ... If You Don't Flinch

In 1852, some trigonometry gurus, identified the Everest as the world's highest mountain. This announcement captured the international imagination. Soon the idea of reaching the summit of the "roof of the world" - - - as the "ultimate geographic feat."

For one hundred years, the Everest was un-conquered by man.

On May 23, 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay, became the first men to successfully reach the summit of Mt. Everest - - - and live to tell about it. Hillary was not his first attempt to conquer the world's highest peak, many died in those previous attempts.

Many men tried the Summit, and were frozen in the ice.

On June 8, 1924, two members of a British expedition, George Mallory and Andrew Irvine, attempted
the summit. Mallory had already failed twice at reaching the summit.
When asked why he wanted to climb Everest he said "because it's there." The two men were last spotted "going strong" for the top until the clouds perpetually swirling around Everest engulfed them. They then vanished - - - frozen.

Mallory's body was not found for 75 years, in May 1999. His evidence was found on his body - - - such as a camera containing photos of the summit, or a diary entry recording their time of arrival at the summit - - - to clear up the mystery of whether these two Everest pioneers made it to the top - - - before the mountain killed them.

In 1996, fifteen people died trying to reach the summit, making it the deadliest single year in the mountain's history.

Mallory and Irvince were died, causing a bitter failures for Hillary. There is a legendary story of Hillary attending a dinner after one of his failed attempts. The dining hall they were in was situated at the base of the mountain and had a large window that looked up toward Everest.

With a clenched fist raised to his immovable enemy, Hillary declared, "You beat us once. You beat us twice - and more. But you will not beat us forever, because we can grow and you can't."

Because Hillary and Norgay left the crest, since 4,000 men and women has trek to crest - - - 200 died while trekking.  In 1976, a Japanese woman reached the world highest mountain. In 2013, an 80 years Japanese man made the crest. In 1970, an Japanese alpine skied the Everest --- using a parachute to slow his descent. In 2001, Eric Weihenheimer proved that a blind man can reach the highest mountain on Earth.

See Eric's video here: http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/TeamNoLimits.html

So it is in your life.

Yes, there are problems in your life - - - you are alive.

Do not circumstances thwart your progress - - - and your life.

Technologies will change. Marketing ideas will evolve. You will find yourself in a daydream of confusing options and ideas.

But, none of this matters. It doesn't matter because - - - you can grow and change and adapt. You can act, and you can grow better, because the frustrating matters cannot grow.

Braille, computer systems, wheel chairs, and sign learning, are not the answer. They are tools.

You - - -  and you alone - - - are the answer to your success because you are the one that will take action. There is no "done for you" success system in business or life.

It's an inside job.

Change Is Changing

By the time I retired from business, the skills and business knowledge I had developed had fed, clothed and put a roof over the heads of me and my family for fifty years. (At eleven-years-old, I started my first business selling newspapers in the casinos of Elko, Nevada. By fifteen-years-old I had started in the machine shop trade.)  But now, my business had changed, and I did not know what to expect.

As “patriarch” of the family, it was my prime job to provide leadership for the family. I could not lead if I did not know what to expect. So, I turned the machine shop over to my three sons, and began studying.

One of the first things I learned was that I was not alone in my confusion.

Consider Barnes and Noble. Suppose you were the CEO, or just a store manager, of the 150 year old Barnes and Noble Bookstore. Barnes and Noble had been the number one bookstore in America for nearly one hundred years. Then Amazon comes along. In less than a decade, Barnes and Noble is the number TWO bookstore in America.

Amazon doesn’t need to build stores. They don’t need clerks. They don’t need air conditioning. They don’t need building permits or liability insurance for their customers. They don’t need to have physical access to large urban populations. Amazon just needs people who read books and have a computer with internet access … anywhere in the nation … now anywhere in the world.
Nearly everything that Barnes and Noble knew about the book business had changed. What were they to do? How could they compete in a world they did not understand?

How could they have anticipated that the “book worms” would be the first group of people to shift their shopping allegiance from "brick and mortar" to "click and order"?

The more I studied, the more I realized that changes were impacting more than just books stores. The changes were effecting education, employment, business, and even retirement.

The changes highlighted here are not intended to derogate education, employment, any business, or any retirement program.

Education is good. Computer games changed education. Kids were bored with school. Games like
War of World, Mine Craft, Brave Frontier, etc., engaged young minds in a way that traditional “book learning” no longer could. Kids adapt to change quickly. Take smart phone texting as an example, one fifteen-year-old girl I knew had 10,000 texts racked up in one month. She could text while hiding her phone in her pocket, sneak a peek at her phone, put the phone back in her pocket, and type an answer without ever looking at the keyboard.

This reminds me of my typing class when typewriters did not have letters on the keys so I had to learn the non-keys without looking at the keyboard, and watch the paper to see if I had the correct key. I still look at the computer, not the keys.

Employment is good. The good ‘ole one job, retire, and then going fishing, is a dream. Jobs now are like contract workers, they leave when the contract is finished and begin hunting for another contract (job). Each hunted job runs its course between two and four years. How many in the current workforce have worked for a particular company for twenty years, or even ten years? That number is dwindling rapidly. Will you be working for the same company until retirement? Not likely.

Business is good. Business is like "employment is good." I thought my last business (2008) would last about five years before the Chinese would undercut 50% of my price for production. I was wrong. My business was gone in four years when the Chinese came in at 25% of my price (about the cost of the material to make the products). My products are good, when the Chinese stop playing roulette with government feeding, my products will make a strong return (or I am making an error in judgment about the stock - see the next paragraph).

I believed that I would be a "small millionaire," as the news says:
http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/4TraitsMillionaireMind.html

Retirement is good. I thought I was set to retire before 9-11 happened. My wife and I had earned 1.5 million in stocks, and another 3/4 million for our house in San Jose. Two weeks before 9-11,I had a big heart attack that left me "almost" alive. My business was gone by October of 2001, and my mind was crippled.

My mind was impaired. I could not dial a telephone number with one hand. I had to input the first number on the keypad with my left hand, and then use my right hand to find the next number, one hand, one finger, one number at a time. I took me two minutes to dial a number on a telephone.
It was three years before I could key a ten telephone number, in ten seconds.

Because my mind was "limping," my stock value disappeared. My friends told me to sell the stock. I understood the words they had spoken. I could not understand, "How good businesses could die so quickly"? I believed that my stock value would bounce back, because the stock was supported by strong businesses: one business was one of the ten best most profitable in the nation (that is not 10% but best profitable within the ten businesses with a 55% profitability). In two years, my stock was gone.

The government calculates retirement. Forecasts show that 98% of American workers will retire at 50% of the income they earned before their retirement. In ten years, Americans will retire at seventy-years-old, and there will be more retirees. In twenty years, there will be one American on retirement, and one worker to each retiree.

I studied the stock market and the CPI. I gave a presentation to my business team. Here it is. http://www.symbiosis4u.us/StockOrProfit/Profit1.htm

The reason we do not ride everywhere in a horse and buggy is not because the horse and buggy did not work. The horse and buggy stopped working because of a paradigm shift about 1906.

Buggies were not replaced with cars so much as muscle was replaced by machine. In the Industrial Age, machine power eclipsed human muscle power and animal muscle power. A team of twenty mules (horses) was about the limit of how many mules could be controlled by one person, hence the “Twenty Mule Team Borax” logo on the hand cleaner.

Yet a modern railroad locomotive produces over 2,000 horsepower that can be controlled by one person.

We are in an economic shift again. As the future continues to unfold, people will be paid for their "human capital": knowledge, skills, experience, creativity, adaptability, and kindness.

See video about kindness, the best human capital: http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/ChainOfKindness.mp4

Past education, resume, number of years in the organization, rank, and position will become secondary to “human capital.”

No matter what type of organization you work in, you must take responsibility for your own career security and advancement by constantly improving your "human capital." You must consider yourself a permanent student and lifelong learner.

In 1906 there were over 200 different automobile manufacturers in the United States. Remember
names like the 1909 Stanley Steamer, or Stutz Bearcat, Studebaker, and Nash?

Will you be a "human capital," or will you be a Stanley Steamer?

Be happy, healthy, wise, and abundance,

Beliefs Are Not Equal

What are beliefs, values, ideas, and feelings? Do they create results in your life?  Or, are the beliefs, values, ideas, and feelings merely flashes like lightening on "your thoughts," more like wishing or day dreaming?

Or, is your brain over educated, convincing you that “thinking" automatically creates your life results? Are beliefs, values, ideas, and feelings a means to find the elusive key to some ancient knowledge that will lead to results in your life? We often see examples of these in simplified “positive thinking” and in movies like the "The Secret, and The Matrix."

In 2001, I saw the movie The Matrix after my thinking was scrambled after a surgeon ripped open my
chest and removed my heart.   The cardiologist told my wife that it was normal to think "psycho" after that type of surgery. So, I believed the thoughts and/or feelings were the real belief … the real life. It was six months before I returned to "normal" thoughts (without thinking the matrix).  And I believe that you will benefit from the insights I learned.

From psycho (fake results) to reality, because the idea and/or feeling was the last sensation that I remembered.  Either the idea or feeling created a sensation (result) created reality.  For four months, the value was linked to an idea and/or feeling.  After six months, I linked that a value begin with a belief. The belief was the reality.

Here was my thinking for six months; I had a number of beliefs.  Each belief produced one or more values, the value produced a idea and/or feeling, and the idea and/or feeling produced the result.

http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/EverythingHappens2Reason.html  (7minutes)

Some beliefs are slippery and difficult to understand.  Starting with the caboose, the results are what you want, or what you do not want, in your life.

After the caboose, comes the feeling and ideas.  Feeling and ideas produces the energy needed to get results.  If you are an intellectual (engineer) like me, you will put the idea before the feeling.  If you are emotional (an artist), not like me, you will place feeling before the ideas.

Values are part of the engine and are easier to see than beliefs.  Values are often like place and time markers that help us remember the things that worked, or did not work, in our past.

For example, by the time I was ten years old, I had decided that my "birth" mother was crazy. I still remember my mother wearing a straight jacket, being put into an ambulance, to be taken to a hospital for mental illness.  I was not crying when they carted her away. That event created a place and time marker that reinforced my acceptance of the value that "emotions were crazy."

Therefore, I could not rely on my emotions, or any other person's emotions.  I had a train with one car missing … the feeling car.  I became an intellectual because of a "value" I held that emotions produced craziness. The value I remembered by the place and time marked event … was easier to pin point than trying to identify a deeply buried underlying belief.

"Belief" (also in the engine) is not easy to pin point or understand.   A belief may create many values.   For example, perhaps my great grandfather had a belief that "he was a human".  When he saw a "White" person, he would say, "They are human";  When he saw a person with "black or yellow” skin, he would say, "They are human.” But, when he saw a person with "red" skin (American Indians, like Piute, Blackfoot, Apache, etc.), he would not say that a "red" man was a human.  He would say that a person with "red" skin was an animal. He believed that the "good red" skin person was a dead one.

Similarly, my wife's cousin had three tours in Vietnam.  I asked him what he felt was needed to end the war.  He told me, "Remove the good Vietnamese  and put them on boats on the ocean; then nuke the bad Vietnamese… and then he would sink the boats holding the good Vietnamese." Harsh, yes. But a solid example of a firmly entrenched belief that influences value, idea and/or feeling development and therefore results in life.

As another example, a belief is, "All mothers protect their children."  All mothers, around the world, believe they must protect their children (unless they are crazy). That is a world belief.   All mothers protect their children is a belief … a world belief.

You need to be aware that ALL BELIEFS (and values) ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL. Some beliefs you started yourself (i.e. when I believed that all emotions were crazy), other beliefs originated  from other people.

There are four types of beliefs you need to be aware of in order to successfully change your limiting beliefs:
• Level 1: Surface Beliefs: It feels like it’s going to start raining.  I think I’ll wear my red raincoat.
• Level 2: Self-Image Beliefs: I am shy. I usually don’t make a good first impression.  I was a fat baby (thin, ugly, ignored, loved, smart, stupid) I cannot stop being who I am.  I love speaking to crowds.  I speak two languages, fluently, yet I can't get a date.
• Level 3: World Beliefs: Humans have one head, two arms, and two legs.  The stars are seen at night, not on a bright sunny day. To live, humans must have water, food, love, etc.  And all mothers love their children.
• Level 4: Universal Beliefs: Does God exists?  Do I have a soul?  Is there karma?  What is the meaning of life?

Those four fundamental beliefs are the core that shapes our whole reality. Below are some frequently held beliefs. A belief can be categorized as a Surface Belief, a Self-Image Belief, a World Belief, or a Universal Belief.  Can you figure out which of the four fundamental beliefs are within each question, and why?

 Every human on Earth can NOT be rich?
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 I do not want any business?
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 Rich people (or people who speaks with an accent, have a strong body odor, owns guns, etc.) cannot be trusted.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 I would never wear a hot pink dress (shirt) to work.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 Avon, Shaklee, Amway, and other MLMs, are liars.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 I want a simple business that requires only 10 hours a month to run, and earn one million dollars a year.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 I would not burn the ships (business, marriage, friends, etc), like Cortez did.
(Listen to Andy Andrews about why Cortez burned his ships.
http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP3/BurnTheBoats.htm  3 minutes)
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 Obama is a better president than Lincoln.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 I do NOT want to ask my friends to join any business.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 I could sell product for my friends, because they trust me.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 If a stranger asked me about starting a business, I would fear the IRS would get me.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 I don’t trust people, especially strangers.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

 If I were dying, I could ask a stranger for help.
Note: Surface, Self-Image, World, or Universal, AND why you have this belief?

If you were dying … today … would you accept as "enough?"

When A Problem Becomes A Problem

Albert Einstein observed that humans cannot solve a problem with the same information which allowed the problem to become a problem.

The three biggest killers in the USA are cancer, heart disease, and obesity (diabetes).  Of those three, obesity is not perceived as a disease. With 30% of the US population overweight, and another 30% classified as medically obese, then it makes sense that 60% of the population need to lose weight.

Yet 90% of those who intend to lose weight in 2014, will fail to keep the weight off in 2015.   And they do it again and again and again, year after year, decade after decade, until they are fitted for a oversized coffin.

My mom, called Mom Jane, had the same round-ness when my Dad married her (1953) as when she died many years later.  She had almost the same measurements too: sixty four inches in height and sixty inches around her waist.  Mom Jane had a new diet every year.

Mom Jane was habit-able: to the taste of margarine (we began eating the fake butter when butter was rationed during World War II), Cokes, hamburgers (before McDonalds), and her delicious home-made chocolate fudge (when fudge was gone, she wanted a chocolate bar).

Mom Jane was always dieting. She tried the grapefruit diet, lettuce diet, raw beef diet (my Dad teased about her Cro-Magnon diet), radish diet, etc.  She believed that diets could make her svelte, like when she was a teenager.

My Dad did not diet.  He was overweight but he did not like dieting.  My Dad’s measurements were as bad as my Mom Jane’s: he was 68 inches in height and his waist was 48 inches.

About 1960, my Dad began reading a health nature magazine in New York.  One article talked of using "natural" food, not a diet.  My Dad asked if Mom Jane would stop the un-natural food, and eat this new "healthier" food. She asked, "IF you will too?"  So, he and she began to "eat what was natural."  This new "no-diet" was easy to understand, and hard to do.

They had a plethora of problems.  They had to incorporate natural foods one by one, slowly … and they lost weight slowly- inch by inch. For their first “inch," they began to use real butter and real cream in coffee. Mom Jane still had her addictions to Coke.  She laughed about the “no-diet” that did not allow drinking Coke.  She drank three to six every day.  My Dad helped her to stop drinking Coke, with coffee, which is "natural."

My parents lived in Portola, with a population of 2,000, about seventy miles north of Lake Tahoe.  Portola had one small grocery store, and all the breads were white. Then my Dad received a flyer in the mail from Los Angeles, which talked about the benefits of whole wheat flour, and that he could bake his own whole wheat bread. He bought some flour, and began making his whole wheat bread … which made the inch by inch seem to become a foot by foot scenario.  If you eat naturally, you will lose weight … and increase your health.  Even if the program is easy to understand, and difficult to do. And my Dad knew that they had miles before they could let up on making changes … they had miles before they could sleep.

http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/WhiteWheatFlour.html    by an MD (6 min)

When he died in 1976, my Dad had two elements he had advocated against: white flour poison and white sugar poison.  I have since added two elements: white salt poison, and manmade poison in the food.  (Mom Jane died three weeks after my Dad.)

I began to call them "white poisons" after seeing one of the neighborhood children eating sugar for lunch. I yelled at her mother, "You are giving your children white poison!"  After she recovered from her heart attack, I told the story from my Mom Jane and explained that white poisons are not poisons like Hemlock (killed Socrates), Cyanide (Nazi used hydrogen Cyanide in the gas chambers), or Arsenic (killed Napoleon). She thought I was weird, and I answered that I agreed.  But her children began eating more natural food after that.

Many people have heard the joke about “how to eat the whole elephant” … take one bite at a time. Many people do not understand that because they have never eaten naturally. So, If your intestines start growling or otherwise complaining from too much change too fast, slow down. Particularly in the very beginning stages, make only small changes to your diet (small bites to eat the elephant).

White Flour:  When my Dad was making bread, there were no non-white breads available in the stores.  Now the stores stock whole wheat breads as much as white flour breads because shoppers have become more aware.  The manufacturers will not make what shoppers will not buy.

When I buy bread in a new store, I first check the weight (should have some heft), then I make sure the bread is not too soft (not doughy like), and that it has no additives or ingredients that I cannot recognize.  The last criterion I check, and of least importance, is the price … because I want to live until 120 years of age. And I can’t enjoy my money if I’m dead anyway.

White Sugar: I watched a Dr Robert Lustig video in 2009 just before my 6 month old Grandson Brody and my daughter visited me. Remember, that Brody was just breaking his first tooth.  While I was holding Brody, I ate a peanut butter sandwich.  I got some of the peanut butter on my finger.  Usually, I would wipe the peanut butter off with a napkin.  This time, I gave the peanut butter to Brody.  He loved it. So, I gave him more peanut butter on my finger.  I did this about three or four times with the peanut butter smeared on my finger. Brody's mother was watching me and said, "You should not feed him peanut butter!"  So, I put Brody on the floor and he crawled away.  My daughter and I then had a nice conversation (not about peanut butter for babies).  After a minute, Brody crawled back to interrupt the conversation.  As Brody crawled near his mother, his mother picked him up to hold him.  But Brody crawled past his mother's arms, held his hand out to me, and crawled toward more peanut butter. My daughter was shocked, "Well, I guess Brody loves peanut butter."  (His is now five years old, and he still loves peanut butter).

White Salt: US salt is just sodium chloride and iodine, iodized salt contains around 61 ppm (parts per million).  Sea Salt has a naturally occurring, trace amount of iodine at around 68 parts per million.  Sea salt has 75+ additional minerals:  Zinc. Copper, Erbium, Tin, Manganese, Cerium, Fluoride, Rubidium, Gallium, Boron, Titanium, Bromine, Chloride, Sodium, Sulfur, Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium, Silicon, Carbon, Iron, Aluminum, Praseodymium, Strontium.  My Dad would have agreed that sea salt is natural.

Manmade Ingredients: Try deciphering the ingredients on any package of processed food and you'll probably abandon your hopes that any healthy man-made foods exist.  Most Americans have a “body burden” of between  400 - 800 toxic chemicals stored in their bodies (1) as the result of 3 billion pounds of toxic chemicals which the EPA website records and releases reports on yearly (2) … that is approximately ten pounds per person, per year, in the USA … generating a chemical mixture with unknown and unpredictable consequences

1  Ref: chemicalbodyburden.org quotes a study by the EPA that states the toxic chemicals found in modern humans averages 700 of the current 70,000 chemicals used in the USA
2  Ref: yosemite.epa.gov  12/16/2010 “Across the U.S. in 2009, 3.37 billion pounds of toxic chemicals were released into the environment, a 12 percent decrease from 2008.”

After hundreds of different diets, you would think that at least one of them would give the results that were touted.  The one thing we have learned from diets is this … diets do not work.  Let me repeat that.

DIETS DO NOT WORK.

Isn’t the definition of insanity “doing the same thing over again while expecting different results?”

Teens Re-invent The Burma Shave Signs

Recently I drove past a curbside car wash where students were raising money for their school music program.  For a block before their car wash location, students stood at the curb waving signs at passing motorists.

The signs reminded me of the old Burma Shave ads, that used to dot our highways.  Beginning in 1925, Burma Shave used to put small wooden signs near the road with a series of comments, like a sentence broken into easy to read words.  For example…
#1 Although insured
#2 Remember, kiddo
#3 They don't pay you
#4 They pay
#5 Your widow
#6 Burma-Shave

Like the old Burma Shave ads, these students held up signs with progressive comments.

#1 high gas prices
#2 got you cranky?
#3 when washed and waxed
#4 you get more
#5 sMILES per tanky!

Their signs made me laugh.  If I had not been enroute to an appointment, I would have stopped.  As I drove on, their signs also made me start thinking about what these students were really saying.
High Gas Prices:  Almost all of consumer products (and including products for business) are increasing.  Since 1970 prices has launched like a rocket into space. In 1970, most families had one job.

I bought my first home in 1964 next to the IBM plant, when there were fifty homes on my street.  Most of the wives, and mothers, did not work out the home. Only two homes had wives earned incomes: one husband was an alcoholic who died in the first year, and the second wife worked with her husband's business.

Now most families has two jobs: husband job, and the wife job.  We are beginning three incomes: husband job, wife job, and a second part job.

The Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank has a chart with prices, beginning to 1913 (when started the Federal Reserve Bank) until 2013.  In 2013, I changed into a visual picture from the FRB chart of hist1800.cfm.  Source: Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis at http://www.minneapolisfed.org/community_education/teacher/calc/hist1800.cfm

After the 1980's, "official" inflation has not including any product with a VOLATILE price.  Examples of volatile products, would be gasoline, housing, medical costs, insurance, and tax increases, are not included in the CPI.  For example, if gasoline increase for your autos and trucks, that does not increase the CPI.  The price of gasoline does increase the CPI when groceries because of the higher gasoline cost.

Got You Cranky: Most persons are cranky on Monday morning, which is also the most heart attack on Monday morning.  A cranky person is like a infection, and he will infect another person to become another cranky. Take to change a cranky … is like spooning medicine to a person who is already dead.

When Washed and Waxed:  I enjoy washed and waxed (shaved).
In the shower, I turn the water on very hot, and just let the water relax my body.  My shower is done, or when the heat water has cool.  I like a shower, but never enjoy a bath (except when I join my wife on a bath).

I have never wanted to wax the hairs on my body.  It looks painful.  I do shaving, but after I retired, I shave not every day.  I like the looks of my face after the whiskers are gone.  My wife likes my fresh shaving, maybe that is why I like shaving.

sMiles Per Cranky:  When my youngest daughter, when she was fifteen years, she said, "I don't want to become old."
"Well Stephanie, why do you to become old?"
"Old people walk as like barefoot on broken glass, her eyes has to wear thick glasses, her skin looks like a alligator, and they cannot dancing the salsa!"
"Stephanie, do you like walking on barefoot on broken glass?  Have a fifteen years looks like a alligator skin but her skin burned?  And you has never learned how to dancing the salsa.  Perhaps, you will look to dancing the salsa when you are old?"
Stephanie did not answered me.

After I remembered that Stephanie had not answered me (24 years ago), so I sent Stephanie a video about an 102 woman, driving an 82 car. The old woman is not "an old woman," even if she is 102 of ages. I requested her, "That you will be 100 old, as the woman in the video."

30% Americans Have Heart Problems

30% of Americans will die from a heart attack, or stroke.  Last week, I was invited to join a "stroke" therapy group (I was not the speaker).  I went to visit initially because I wanted to find out how "strokers" think about their strokes.

I was astounded! One person was there two days after his stroke … some had suffered a stroke fifteen years ago … and were still happy.  They still held on to the hope that they could get whole again.

One woman had a “one arm stroke,” her arm was helpless.  For five years, she believed that God had cursed her.  That thought process made her helpless. Through therapy she learned to believe that she was NOT helpless.  She changed from helpless, to writing a cookbook for "Cooks with one arm."  She was no longer helpless.

She loved herself, and was happy where she was in the NOW.

Helplessness is a learned behavior that may, or may not, stem from real life debilitating circumstances. But constantly thinking thoughts about how helpless you are only reinforces the feeling of having no control.  The helpless mind focuses on helplessness.  A helpless person must throw out these negative thought patterns.  Then they can gain the ability to empower themselves.

Video:  http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/ThinkDifferent.html (1 min)

One man was in a wheel chair because his stroke robbed him of the use of his legs.  He sat in his wheel chair, exercising with one pound dumbbells in his hands.  (I thought that dumbbells started at five pounds.)

Helplessness leads to depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem, further entrenching you in a compromised life.
Right NOW! Be thankful for what you have, instead of moaning about what you lack. Be satisfied with what you have when you are in pursuit of what you want.

Happiness, more than anything, is a choice every "stroker" makes every day. They can choose to accept the stroke, to become well again, and be as happy as before they had a stroke.
Video: http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/TheseRules.html (4 min)

One man felt that he had no control over his life.  He did not have a stroke.  His wife had a stroke.  He was struggling with how to put his wife of 32 years in hospice care.  He did not want to make the decision.  He was trying to take control of his own life, and he found that control inept.  He was not happy with his decisions.  He couldn't remember his wife and the love they had together.  He felt he had not control over his life.  He chose to not be happy.

Happiness is a conscious decision. You choose to be happy today, or you choose to be miserable. Your action/reaction is determined by how you choose to perceive a situation.
A couple was taking a walk on their vacation in Florida. The couple suddenly found themselves surrounded by crocodiles. The man thought “Oh My God … crocodiles!” While his wife thought “Oh My God … handbags!

A lot of people get things mixed up. A wife thinks about all the bad things her husband does, while a widow remembers all the good stuff her husband did. That is the ultimate recipe for misery! Isn’t it better to switch the lists around?

No one else is going to make you happy. Think for yourself, "I am powerful and in control of my life and destiny."

About 1965, I read about "strokes" in a health magazine.  The article said that strokes are caused when cholesterol has clogged the arteries of the heart.  The article said that doctors can replace the clogged artery of the heart, and replace it with veins from the legs.  I wondered why the legs veins were not filled with cholesterol, like the heart arteries.  I got the answer to my question about cholesterol, but I waited forty years to get that answer.

Here is the answer, I waited for forty years. http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/FourThingsAboutYourPressure.html(10 min, I watched in three times, the video is very good)

A good business has multiple "Purple Cows."

Dan Kennedy calls a business a "herd," caught up with the stampede.  Seth Godin calls a business a "tribe," which uses a “purple cow.”  Jim Collins uses a business as a Venn with three parts: Passion, Ability, and Buyers.  I like the good old-fashioned "team," with support for an 30 seconds elevator speech. ( http://www.symbiosis4u.us/Newsletter/newsletter.htm read about five minutes)

Whatever you choose to call it, a business is marketing for the Information Age…and it is not simply a “result,” an “idea,” or a “feeling.”  A business must be based on “values” and “beliefs.”

Most new business owners believe that their new business will make money. But 80% of businesses are out of business in one year.  80% of those that survive the first year are gone in 5 years.  In the first 5 years, 96% of businesses will be “out of business,” their owners eating dog food or looking for a job.

One of my mentors explained the history of USA money, from 1776 until 2003, using the FED bank numbers. http://www.symbiosis4u.us/3questions/MacEcon2003.html  (30 minutes for video, takes about 10 minutes for Power Power.)
\

Money is a good thing, but you should not build a business for money.

But money only GIVES you what you want … if you have enough money.

For example, suppose you have been twenty hours on an airplane, with one package of peanuts and one sandwich (which tasted like dog food).  On a Honolulu hop, a person enters the plane and sits next to your seat. He has a McDonald’s bag.  Inside, he has two McDonald’s hamburgers, which cost about $8.00, or $4.00 for a hamburger.  As he opens the McDonald’s bag, the aroma reminds you that you have not eaten for 20 hours.  You are really hungry.

“I see that you have some McDonald’s hamburgers. Can I buy a hamburger?  I am really hungry.”

The Honolulu person says, “Of course, I’ll sell you one of my hamburgers for $20.00.”
Will you pay the $20.00 for a hamburger?
Another example, if you are a prospector in a desert.  Your backpack has $10,000 in gold nuggets that you dug up in the desert.  You ran out of water three days ago.  It will take two days to reach civilization.  You will die tonight or tomorrow, because of thirst.
You see another prospector walking in the desert, opposite from your direction.  He has a burro loaded with water. He offers you a gallon of water … for your $10,000. in gold nuggets.  A gallon of water will keep you alive for two days. Will you buy the water?
Everything has a price that increases or decreases depending on customers. In the desert, the gold nuggets had less value than the water.  The hamburger is worth more than the money … if you are really hungry.   The hamburgers and water are examples of “purple cows.”
Have you ever seen a “purple cow?”  (my mother had a poem by Ogden Nash about “purple cow.”)<!--[if gte vml 1]>

A “purple cow” is a product or service which is unique, and without any competition.
Seth Godin explains a “purple cow.” http://www.symbiosis4u.us/MP4/SethGodin-PurpleCow.html   (1 ½ min)
A purple cow should have the values and beliefs of the business.  A purple cow works best when used to express values and beliefs.  A purple cow should not be simply thinking of an idea, feeling or results … the values and beliefs must be integrated with the purple cow.  A purple cow can benefit a business more than money.
My “purple cow” was integrated in to all of my businesses: RedOx, Sssh Archery, Van Drielen Machine.  Van Drielen Machine was to help Acuson see inside the human body.  Sssh Archery was to help new archers who can’t keep the arrow on the bow.  RedOx is to help the customer improve their health.  All my businesses … have to help the customers … which a value or belief.
Go to the start of the train, so you can understand the beliefs, values, ideas, feelings, and results for your business.

How would you sell your “purple cow” to a competitor salesman (start with a value)?

___________________________________________________________________________

What purpose does the “purple cow” of your business serve (value or belief) … to customers.
___________________________________________________________________________
What is important to the customers who may want to buy your “purple cow” product?
___________________________________________________________________________
Does your business plan include the “purple cow?”
___________________________________________________________________________
What do you need to integrate into a new idea, so the value/belief becomes a “purple cow?”
___________________________________________________________________________

What is the love (feeling) for your “purple cow” product (a value or belief)?
___________________________________________________________________________

How will you support the “purple cow” …  if NOT a value or a belief?”  (money is not a value)
___________________________________________________________________________
What you don’t have a “purple cow?”  What can you do … with 30 days … write it on this line.  (See on my homepage, not an advertisement). http://symbiosis4u.us/MP4/MattCutts-30DayChallenge.html   (3 min)
